Nintendo Switch 2 Price Increase: Why Experts Say You Should Buy Now

Nintendo appears set to raise the price of its Switch 2 console, and industry experts warn that waiting could cost consumers significantly more. The latest hybrid console, which launched at $449 in June 2025, has already seen悄悄 price adjustments that suggest the new MSRP will be higher.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Nintendo has effectively implemented a price increase by discontinuing the $499 Switch 2 bundle with Mario Kart World in December 2025. Prominent industry analyst Matthew Ball noted that Nintendo has “done a price increase for the 85% of customers that buy Mario Kart.”

Supply Chain pressures

Research firm Niko Partners predicts a $50 price increase for the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. The increase is attributed to ongoing RAM shortages affecting gaming consoles and general component costs. Like many electronics, gaming hardware has seen consistent price pressure from supply chain constraints since 2020.

Nintendo’s strategy differs from competitors Sony and Microsoft, both of which have publicly raised prices on their latest consoles. Nintendo has historically resisted price increases to maintain accessibility, but economic pressures may be forcing a change in approach.

Bundle Value Disappears

The discontinuation of the Mario Kart World bundle is particularly significant. This package offered exceptional value, bundling the console with one of the year’s biggest game releases. For families and casual gamers, this bundle represented the most cost-effective way to enter the Nintendo ecosystem.

Should You Buy Now?

For those considering a Nintendo Switch 2 purchase, experts suggest buying sooner rather than later. Not only are prices expected to rise, but supply constraints during the holiday season could limit availability. Current models remain available at launch pricing, making this an opportune moment to purchase before the anticipated increase takes effect.
